Tess Acton Associate
Tess works with people from all around the world with their Canadian immigration, refugee, and citizenship matters.
Tess represents clients with all types of permanent and temporary applications to Canada, including criminal, security, and medical admissibility issues, family sponsorship applications and appeals, refugee claims, Federal Court applications, humanitarian and compassionate applications, and permanent resident applications. Tess also assists clients with their business immigration needs.
She holds a J.D. from the University of Ottawa and an LL.M. from the University of Victoria. Her LL.M. research focused on working with interpreters in the immigration and refugee law context. Before joining Maynard Kischer Stojicevic, Tess worked in commercial and civil litigation in Vancouver and Toronto.
Tess is a member of the Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers, and the Canadian Association for Refugee and Forced Migration Studies. In 2018, Tess received the Canadian Bar Association National Immigration Section’s Founders’ Award.
Tess is the Vice Chair of the Excellence in Literacy Foundation, a Director of the Georgia Strait Alliance, and an active volunteer with Access Pro Bono. She is kept busy outside of work baking pastries, practising yoga, and planning road trips in her 1985 Westfalia.
