Beyond Borders: The Journey of Ukrainian Refugees to Canada Through CUAET
The Kelowna Daily Courier recently published an article detailing the ongoing situation for Ukrainians seeking refuge in Canada through the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) program. Established in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, CUAET allows Ukrainian refugees to work or study in Canada for up to three years, with the option to apply for permanent residency.
Despite the application deadline having passed, Ukrainians approved under CUAET had until March 31, 2024, to enter Canada. The article highlights the challenges faced by Ukrainian newcomers in securing employment and settling in, spotlighting local initiatives like the Ukraine Nightingale Project that provide essential support.
Benton Mischuk, from MKS Immigration Lawyers, was quoted saying, “Choosing the best pathway and navigating it is complicated,” advising Ukrainians seeking permanent residency to start the process early and seek professional advice.
The article underscores the importance of community support and the complexity of immigration processes for those fleeing conflict. To read the full article click here.
