An international survey of 208,807 workforce respondents in 190 countries determined that 24 percent of respondents said they were willing to move to Canada. The remaining 20 percent stated they would be willing to settle in Australia, followed by the U.S. This was the first time in the survey’s eight-year history that the United States fell from the top spot as the winning destination for international workers.
Canada has always been recognized as a great place to live. Whether you are moving here to raise a family, work, or go to school, the quality of living is good and the healthcare is free. In fact, Canada has recently replaced the United States as the “place to be” for international foreign workers.
But why did Canada take the top spot in this survey?
Canada was highly ranked in the international survey by workers in the technology sector as well as those under the age of 30 and respondents with master’s degrees and doctorates. Canada has several prestigious universities and colleges so people flock to Canada for a quality education.
Since healthcare is free via the Medicare program, Canada is an ideal place to settle because its residents don’t have to worry about paying for most procedures and doctors visits. The booming healthcare sector also ensures that healthcare workers have many job opportunities to choose from when coming to Canada to work. Canada also has a welcoming immigration policy compared to other countries. This makes international workers and their families feel comfortable with their move and they are set up for success as soon as they enter the country.
The recent occurrence of civil unrest in America also impacted the results of this survey. With the racial tensions and police brutality that impacted the U.S. during the COVID-19 pandemic, people working abroad may feel more comfortable in Canada. In addition, Canada had lower numbers of COVID-19 cases compared to many parts of the world, and the way their leaders handled the pandemic has impressed prospective residents and solidified their decision to make Canada their new home.
